Moments Like Home

Oscar Suh-Rodriguez’s debut solo guitar album, featuring all original compositions, is available on Bandcamp and Spotify.

Like a haiku, it aims to capture and express the details of the mundane, with each piece representing a different hour of the day: from the brittle morning sounds of insects to the cold feeling of one’s bedsheets at night. The ordinary is put on exhibit in this sketch of a summer’s day.

KURO

KURO is a fully improvised concept album recorded in spring of 2023.

The work presents listeners with an exhibition of shadows. The story of Tilikum, the abused orca; Sagittarius A*, our galaxy’s very own supermassive black hole; and Crow girl, the neglected child who was raised by crows. KURO–the Japanese word for “black”–seeks to swallow and celebrate the underbelly, the unbeautiful.

Available on Bandcamp and Spotify.

“Scaling the Fronds of a Young Fern” for Wind Quintet

An original composition, first performed by City of Tomorrow at Vermont College of Fine Arts and later premiered at St. John’s Episcopal (NYC) September 12, 2021.

Improvised solo guitar

This is my favorite form and approach to enjoying the instrument—where harmony and melody are fully arranged in the moment. I keep up a daily practice of improvising melodies or arrangements and documenting them. I regularly share my video documentation to both my Youtube and Instagram pages.
